The American
Bureau of Shipping (ABS) is a classification society,
with a mission to promote the security of life, property and
the natural environment, primarily through the development
and verification of standards for the design, construction
and operational maintenance of marine-related facilities. At
the end of 2006, ABS was the third largest class society with
a classed fleet of over 10,000 commercial vessels and offshore
facilities. The core service ABS provides is the provision
of classification services through the development of standards
called ABS Rules. These Rules form the basis for assessing
the design and construction of new vessels and the integrity
of existing vessels and marine structures.
All computers and displays used in ship
construction that are ABS Type Approved are designed and tested
to the standards as set forth in IEC
60945 (International
Electrotechnical Commission). ABS provides type approval
to these products based on successful completion of tests conducted
by a third party test facility that is acredited by the American
Association of Lab Accredidation (A2LA).
To facilitate an ABS type approved
installation, Comark provides computers and displays that
have been designed to IEC60945 requirements, tested by an
A2LA approved test facility and type approved by ABS. Some
of the requirements these products must meet are:
Operating temperature
Storage temperature
Vibration
Humidity
